Pain in the Foot

Q: I am 41 year-old female and for the past year I have been having excruciating pain in both my feet. It starts suddenly and then goes away in an hour or two. There is no pattern to the pain. Can you help?
Signed, Martha - Cobourg.

A: Leg and foot pain is a medical condition that may be difficult to diagnose due to a myriad of possibilities. Your pain seems to be chronic because it is happening for about one year, however, the nature of pain can be classified as acute because it comes on suddenly and goes away in a few hours. It could be due to a number of things. I often start my patients with blood screen to check for possible inflammation factors. Elevated levels of C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and ESR, as well as Uric Acid may be clues to the problem. Mineral levels must also be checked to rule out possible cramps due mineral imbalance. You also should have lipids panel screened. Atherosclerosis in leg/foot arteries may be causing interrupted blood flow thus causing pain. Vascular ultrasound can shed some light on it. Lack of some vitamins can also lead to parasthesia that would also cause discomfort and pain. X-ray may be needed to rule out stress fracture.

It is also possible that your pain is postural. Fallen foot arches or poor fitting shoes may lead to such pain. Plantar fasciitis should be considered as a possible cause of pain.

In my clinic, all patients get routinely screened by an EIS Scan. This electro-interstitial scan is a new, scientifically validated, total body health scanning device that allows me to gather information in a quick and non-invasive way which estimates the health status of the major organs of the body including biological activity at the cell level. With it, I can establish if there is a problem with lymphatic drainage, circulation or energy exchange all in under 5 minutes.
