Healthy after the Holidays

Q: I love the holiday season. I love the great food and time with friends and family, but I now feel completely exhausted and unhealthy. I usually get sick after the holidays how can I stop it this year?

A: Holidays are great, however a lot of people overplay its importance.

Often we do things during the holidays that otherwise we would never do. We overeat, drink excessively and get dehydrated as a result of it, we don't get enough sleep, get stressed out and finally get sick from doing too many things and being in too many places.

Catching a bug during the holidays is very easy. Your immune system is at its lowest.

There are a few things you can do to help to build back strength in your immune system. Increase your daily dose of Vitamin C to a minimum of 1,000 mg per day. Up to 3,000 mg may be even better. Take an adrenal supplement to boost your energy and help with fatigue.

In the future, try to eat less rather than more when going to parties. Make sure you have a nutritious snack before the party. It will keep you from being too hungry and ultimately will keep you from eating too much.

You will also be able to tolerate alcohol better if you are not hungry.

When you get home from a party make sure you wash your hands well to keep germs at bay.

Drink a good amount of water, possibly with some lemon, before going to bed.

Try and get lots of sleep to allow your body to fully rest.

As for feeling blue after the holidays, it is often a withdrawal effect.

When friends and family go back to daily life and you are left on your own, try to stay positive. Find a good book to read to help you get your mind off the party mode.

Work out. Exercise will give you more energy, help lose those extra pounds, increase circulation and get you to feel good again.
